Wide receiver Deion Branch has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks, reportedly for a 2007 first round pick. It is believed the contract Branch will sign with the Seahawks is a 6-year deal averaging around 6.5 million per year.
The transaction ends Branch's 2006 holdout with the New England Patriots that began during the mandatory offseason team events and continued through Sunday's season opener against the Buffalo Bills.
Branch, 27, was selected by the Patriots in the second round (65th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft and played in 53 games with 42 starts for New England from 2002-05. The 5-foot-9-inch, 193-pound wide receiver caught 213 passes for 2,744 yards and 14 touchdowns in four seasons with the Patriots. In eight career playoff games, the Louisville product recorded 41 receptions for 619 yards and two touchdowns.
